Street Tree Request Form

Baltimore City residents and property owners can use this form to request a tree be planted in the sidewalk adjacent to their property.

What if there is no tree pit or well currently in the sidewalk? You can use this form to request a new pit be created.

Once the applicant submits the completed form:

An inspector will evaluate the location and the need for any site preparation (i.e. stump grinding, grate removal, pit creation).
If approved, any necessary site preparation will be completed.
The location will be assigned to the contractor for the next available planting season.
You can check on the status of your request using the email link you received.

Trees are planted by our contractors in the spring and fall. While we will do our best to add your request to the next season, you may have to wait a season or two.

We will do our best to accommodate preferred tree types, but species may be substituted based on availability.

If you have an existing tree pit adjacent to your property, you must request and secure a Forestry permit for planting by submitting a 311 request for a "Street Tree Inspection". Click the link here.

If you are planning to cut a new tree pit in the sidewalk adjacent to your property, you must request and secure a permit through the Department of Transportation's Right of Way office in addition to the Forestry planting permit. Click the link here.

If you secure your own contractor for the creation of a new tree pit, according to Maryland State law, the applicant must contact Miss Utility (1-800-257-7777) to identify and mark any potential conflicts with underground utilities.

Congratulations on your new tree! Our contractors are responsible for staking and adding deer protection at the time of installation, as well as watering and maintaining the newly planted trees for two years.

During the summer months, the tree will appreciate deep, supplemental watering where at least the top 6 inches of soil are saturated. Feel free to help out!
