The native southern crabapple is a shrub or tree that grows to 20 or 30 ft tall. Planting in full sun will encourage blooms and fruiting. Well-drained, but moist and slightly acidic soils are most appropriate. Works well along a border or as a backdrop to a fence. Give the plant plenty of space to branch out.
Some prefer the crabapple for its beautiful blooms and small apples for jellies and jams but prefer that it be away from a mowing or walking area due to those same small fruits that fall onto the ground.
Malus angustifolia
The plant is 3' tall in a 5 gallon pot.
