Tree Giveaway Volunteer Training
Blue Water Baltimore and TreeBaltimore are looking for volunteers to assist with our Tree Giveaway Program this fall. Events take place evenings and weekends between September and November. Roles include customer service, tree expertise, and helping carrying trees and supplies.
If interested in volunteering, please attend our upcoming training on Tuesday, September 10th from 5:30-7:30 pm at 2631 Sisson St in Remington. We will review the various tree species available and practice checking residents out on the iPads. There will be pizza! If you cannot make the training but still wish to volunteer, please let us know so we can arrange a follow-up meeting. We are hoping that most volunteers attend more than one giveaway event.
- Day before event – Set-up: Load trees and supplies during the day
- Day of event – Set-up: Arrive onsite 1 hour before event start time to unload supplies and arrange trees by species
- During event:
o 2 Tree selectors- help folks pick out their tree(s). Use binders to show tree examples & help residents pick the right tree for their yard. Selectors have strong knowledge of tree ID and biology.
o 2 Tree recorders- accurately enter information into iPads in Salesforce form. Recorders have good attention to detail and basic technology skills.
o 1-2 Tree helpers- carry trees and hand out fact sheets and BWB flyers and pamphlets etc.
o 1-2 floaters/photographer
- Break down – 30 min-1 hr after event ends: Load supplies and remaining trees. Bring trees back to nursery and water if needed.
Thanks, and looking forward to working with you to make Baltimore greener! Please contact Zgensheimer@bluewaterbaltimore.org with questions.
